Carly Rae Jepsen to release disco themed album

Carly Rae Jepsen stunned the world 2015’s E-MO-TION, a surprisingly mature and nuanced follow-up to her breakthrough album Kiss. She’s now revealed she wants to take her next album in a completely different direction – a disco direction.

In a recent interview with Vancouver Sun, the effervescent pop star claimed that she had been “revisiting 70’s music, at least for the time being.”

“I can’t explain what we’re doing right now, but we’re very much into disco-y things, whatever this next album may or may not turn out to be,” she said. “But I’m very much referencing ABBA a lot, and the Bee Gees, all of that stuff.”

ABBA were one of the 7o’s biggest pop acts and  remain the top selling musical export from Sweden thanks to hits like “Dancing Queen” and “Mamma Mia.” The Bee Gee’s have been performing for almost 60 years but the majority of their commercial success was over the the same period as ABBA. They introducing such tracks as “Stayin’ Alive” and “How Deep Is Your Love” to the world.

“It’s fun to dig into oldies and see what you can celebrate about it, like a good movie or good song — to take your favorite pieces of something and add some new stuff to create something different,” Carly Rae adds.

The 30 year old first came to the public’s attention in 2007 when she appeared on Canadian Idol and rocketed to international superstardom in 2012 on the back of “Call Me Baby.”
