Is ‘Chick Chick’ this year’s Gangnam Style?

Shirtless men in animal masks, technicolor band aids, animated dancing chickens… this clip has it all

We may still have the remnants of 2012’s smash hit ‘Gangnam Style‘ rattling around our heads but it seems there may be a contenderfor the most annoyingly catchy tune of 2014. ‘Chick Chick’ is the latest viral smash from Chinese pop star Rong “Rollin” Wang and it is setting the internet ablaze with its terrible, but catchy tune and bizarre video clip that has to be seen to be believed. The insane clip features shirtless men in animal masks, technicolor band aids, animated dancing chickens and a Warhol-esque Wang barking animal noises off camera. 7 million people that have now watched the clip and the number is growing daily.

The video clip has managed to combine the ‘people dancing around dressed in animal costumes’ influences of Norwegian comedic duo Ylvis’ 2013 viral hit, “What Does the Fox Say,” and Korean pop sensation Psy’s off the wall film clip and dance styling of “Gangnam Style.” The lyrics are clearly an afterthought consisting of Wang’s singing in Mandarin: ”Mother Hen, Mother Hen,” “Little Chick, Little Chick,” “Rooster, Rooster” and “Who stole my chicken feed?” And the hook? A series of bizarre clucking and squawking noises.

Words really don’t do it justice… Just don’t click through to watch the clip if you’re not prepared to have this song in your head all day.
