Ed Sheeran quits social media because he’s tired of “seeing the world through a screen”

Flame haired troubadour Ed Sheeran has announced he’s taking a break from social media to give his eyes a rest from looking through life “through a screen”.

One of the world’s most popular musicians, the British artist’s life has been more or less an open book for fans. Up until today, that is.

In a lengthy post on Instagram titled “Please read x”, the Thinking Out Loud hit maker wrote, “Hello all. I’m taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while. I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last 5 years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.

“To my family and friends, if you love me you will understand me buggering off for a bit, to my fans, the 3rd album is on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far. See you all next autumn, and thank you for being amazing. Ed x”.

The artist has just concluded a tour of Australia (where he performed with Elton John) and has just concluded the final performance of his world tour in Aukland. The tour has seen him playing around the world almost consistently since August, 2014 and the singer is taking the opportunity to take a break and enjoy some time with family in friends.

Other upcoming plans for 2016 will likely include undergoing surgery for a burst eardrum and seeing how he fares in his recent Grammy nominations.  Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” is nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance – and The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness, on which he’s a featured artist, is nominated for Album of the Year.
