Katy Perry Gets New Tattoo To Commemorate Her Superbowl Performance

Katy Perry’s half time show at the XLIX Superbowl had it all. From animatronic tigers, digital stage effects, dancing sharks and big name musical guests like Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot, Katy Perry’s performance almost outshone the action on the field.

Throughout the performance, Perry changed costumes almost a half a dozen times in just 13 minutes, switching from cutesy Disney inspired pieces to a flame adorned, figure hugging gold dress. The show, somewhat appropriately, concluded with Perry belting out a rendition of Firework as actual pyrotechnics exploded above her. Yep, it certainly was a performance to remember.

Indeed, there has been almost universal acclaim for the 30 year old performer who has successfully avoided being embroiled in controversies like Janet Jackson’s famous ‘wardrobe malfunction’ in 2004. The Guardian reported the result as a “high-octane show [as] notable for its surreal camp as for its tunes” and the USA Today agreed, noting “even if you weren’t a fan of Perry’s music, you had to be impressed with her spectacle.” The match between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots was a tightly contested affair with the Patriots edging out the Seahawks to claim their fourth Superbowl. Perry’s halftime performance was watched by more than 114 million people across the United States alone, smashing previous viewership records.

And what better way to commemorate such a performance than by memorialising it with ink? Just following the performance of a lifetime, she went on to send her 14 million Instagram followers the following image:

“I thought it would be appropriate to draw blood tonight… XLIX,” Perry captioned along with an action shot of herself getting inked with the Roman numerals for 49, as in Super Bowl 49.
