In the wake of Kesha’s request to be released from her contract getting denied, a groundswell of support has begun, with celebrities and fans coming out in support of the “Tik Tok” singer including Taylor Swift donating $250,000 to help with legal costs.
The 28-year-old singer is suing her producer Dr. Luke claiming that she has endured sexual, mental, physical and emotional abuse at his hands across their decade long professional relationship. Also named in the lawsuit was Sony for its alleged negligence but the judge has claimed “there has been no showing of irreparable harm” against Kesha’s career.
As part of her legal case, Kesha sought a preliminary injunction that would allow her to release music outside of Dr. Luke’s authority. A judge denied the request Friday afternoon leaving the singer in tears. The judge said it is not reasonable to “decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated.” The result means that Kesha is still under contract with the same person that she claims has subjected her to years of abuse and is unable to release any new music.
Twitter exploded upon the release of the news, with fellow artists from around the world, including Grimes, Ariana Grande and Best Coast speaking out in support of Kesha. The hashtag #FreeKesha quickly became the most trending topic on Twitter.
The big news came when E! News reported that Taylor Swift has offered more than just words of support, donated $250,000 to Kesha for legal fees in contesting the decision. The news was soon confirmed by Kesha’s mother herself.

I don't know all the facts, of course, but the bottom line is: it is a terrible feeling to not own your voice/ be able to release music.
