Singles Minded: Australian YouTube sensation Brittney Lee Saunders channels internet fame into chart success

Brittney Lee Saunders has transitioned YouTube fame into a promising career as a singer with the release of her first single “Set Fire To Me’.

Following in the footsteps of YouTube sensations like Kina Grannis and Kurt Schneider that have transitioned into successful mainstream music careers, Saunders has leveraged her social influence, managing to chart in the Australian iTunes top singles even before the official release date.

The Australian YouTuber turned popstar announced that her single was available on iTunes via Twitter and her Facebook accounts to a flurry of activity and within 6 hours the song had rocketed up the charts. The single, despite still being a pre-order on iTunes, peaked at #33 on the iTunes Australia charts. Since the track’s release, it has continued to find traction with fans rallying to support the starlet.

The track is available now on iTunes with a video soon to be released.

The bubbly Newcastle based v-logger has amassed in excess of 34 million views on her YouTube channel since beginning it in 2011. On her channel she shares a variety of content including with half a million subscribers who tune in for her regular uploads ranging from make-up tutorials, comedy skits, rants and reflections on her own personal experiences.

The song was recorded by Tim Henwood, formerly of Rogue Traders fame and released by Valleyarm Digital, one of Australia’s largest digital music and video distributors.

Managing Director of Valleyarm, Victor Gugger commented on the singer’s entrance into the pop world saying, “this is perfect blend of our music distribution and our YouTube Multichannel network status. We can bring music from YouTubers and other social influencers to the market a lot more cost effectively than the big labels, giving the artist a greater share of the pie. We are currently working with a number of YouTubers in this space and it’s our aim to expand this presence.”
