Crush of the Day: Eagle and the Worm – ‘Futureman’

by

You’re walking down a seemingly grey and empty street when a marching band conductor appears from a distance and walks towards you. You feel a rush of peculiar delight run through your body as you watch him sway his hips with each stride, each made with delectable conviction. The rest of his band follows, in true flash mob style, moving their instruments in choreographed unison while filling your ears with the most beautiful yet unheard sounds you have never heard. His charismatic energy flows through you as he wraps an arm around your shoulder, taking you under his wing. Colourful streamers and bursts of confetti rain from the sky. Acrobats and hoola girls swirl around you and you are greeted by friendly strangers with handshakes and pats on the back. A young gentleman playfully scruffs up your hair, offering an assuring grin. People are waving their hats in the air from the windows of nearby buildings, admiring the white doves that have just been released from their cages. You turn your back and the parade is now all around you. That is when you realise that all of this for you and everyone has turned up just for you. That peculiar feeling you had earlier is quickly forgotten and overridden with a feeling of content, knowing that everything is where it is supposed to be.

In reality it is just a song, but a damn good one. All you have to do is hit the replay button and you can walk through that seemingly grey and empty street all over again.
