Crush of the Day: The Limiñanas – ‘Salvation’

Hyped in the US thanks to a featuring track in Gossip Girl (Down Underground) and a release under Chicago-based label Trouble In Mind, The Limiñanas displays a psychedelic-yéyé-sunny pop, but don’t really make a fuss about it. This French duo from Perpignan is Marie Limiñanas (drums and guest vocals) and Lionel Limiñanas (vocals, bass, organ). Their music is in the direct tradition of French legends Serge Gainsbourg or Françoise Hardy – and sometimes have a tint of My Bloody Valentine, with simple melodies but precisely arranged music, and spoken/sung lyrics, in French or English – all in a soft and rather happy gaze. Listen to their track “Salvation”, their new album Crystal Anis, or dig into Serge Gainsbourg’s discography to understand the yéyé movement.
