A Quickie with Taken by Cars

Taken By Cars - Wanderland

Taken by Cars first rose to the plate back in 2007 when an old demo, “A Weeknight Memoir in High Definition”, earned them a number one spot on a local radio station. The Manila-based, indie alternative four-piece, fronted by Sarah Marco (vocals) and joined by high school buds Bryce Zialcity (guitar), Siopao Chua (guitar), Isa Garcia (bass) and Bryan Kong (drums), have come a long way. They were recently announced as one of five local support acts to join international artists Temper Trap, Neon Trees, Nada Surf, Avalanche City, Colour Coding and Tully on Tully at the inaugural Wanderland Music & Arts Festival in Manila on the 18th May.

We have a quick one with the band for some pre-festival fulfillment.

Music Weekly: What did you immediately do after hearing that you gained a support slot at Wanderland?

Sarah: Climbed a mountain with friends and drank afterwards.
Bryan: Took a bath and listened to Radiohead.

Who in the band is most likely to fall into the trap of Dougy Mandagi’s sweet disposition?

Sarah: Bryce Zialcita
Bryan: Siopao Chua
Siopao: Bryan Kong

Who is on your ‘pre-Wanderland Festival’ playlist?

Sarah: Our new demos.
Siopao: Phoenix’s Bankrupt!
Isa: James Blake’s Overgrown.

Can we expect to hear new material at the festival?

Sarah: Yes possibly. It depends.

If your band were a sandwich, describe what your fillings would be.

Sarah: Pickles, mustard, and a sprinkling of good vibes.
Siopao: Fuzz with Nutella.
Isa: BBQ – Goes well with alcohol, just like our music.
Bryan: Disco with a lot of reverb.

Taken by Cars plays at Wanderland on the 18th May at Globe Circuit Event Grounds. Nab your tickets here.
