Launched by SCRATCH and SECRET PRODUCTIONS, the team behind the wildly successful Secret Garden and Wilderness festivals in the UK, Wonderfruit is Asia’s newest boutique lifestyle festival. Beginning on Friday the 19th December, the three day festival is a feast for the senses aiming to promote the values of opportunity, sustainability and reciprocation to bring awareness to social and environmental concerns in Thailand. But that’s just what their PR department want you to know. Why should you really be going?
The Lineup is Phenomenal
The team behind Wonderfruit have truly outdone themselves in arranging a truly world class lineup showcasing the best of local talent and a smorgasbord of international guests. With everything from hip hop royalty De La Soul to Sweden’s electro darlings Little Dragon, New Zealand dub/reggae favourites Fat Freddy’s Drop to genre busting DJ and producer Seth Troxler, there’s no shortage of sonic goodness to keep you moving and grooving all weekend. Expect those feet to be a mass of blisters come Monday morning.
Camp Like A King… Or a Pauper
Whether you’re interested in getting at one with nature or you’d prefer a little more in the way of creature comforts, Wonderfruit has you sorted. Your ticket comes with access to the general camping site but if you don”t have your own tent they have pre-erected tents for hire, complete with inflated mattresses! For the ultimate in luxury, there are a range of Safari tents included with every conceivable comfort, right down to 24/7 air conditioning. Of course for those looking to feel like they’re in a proper hotel… well they can go off site and stay at a proper hotel too.
It May Improve Your Life
As if a slew of some of the world’s best musicians and artists wasn’t enough to fill your soul, Wonderfruit is inviting participants to engage in talks and debates focussing on how to improve your health, relationships and livelihood. The Pavillion is designed as a space where guests can explore perspectives that balance the outer and inner self with a focus on philosophy, consciousness and technology.
Never Ending Feasting
Beyond the plethora of aural treats, Wonderfruit is putting on a spread for your mouth as well. Pack your appetite as you dive into a diverse array of culinary experiences with everything from traditional street food options to food trucks dishing up comfort foods like burgers and Philly Cheesesteaks. With top eateries such as Never Ending Summer, Surface and Kuppadeli providing sumptuous fare for those with to a more refined palate, there’s something for everyone.
It’s The First Of Its Kind In Asia
Theatre makes up a huge component of the Wonderfruit experience with attendees not seen as passive viewers of a performance, instead an active part of the show. Whether it is gravity defying aerial artists taking to the skies around you, sensual belly dancing displays and capoeira masters plying their trade around you, or climbable feats of architecture, the festival encourages participation and exploration of the space for a truly immersive experience.
It’s a Great Chance To Get Out Of The City
The jewel of Thailand, Bangkok is an undeniably modern city. Part of its charm is the buzz of activity, day and night throughout its crowded streets, but it can be exhausting too. Wonderfruit has been established in a peaceful locale at Siam Country Club in Chon Buri province to provide a wonderful respite from the chaos of Bangkok and a welcome opportunity to feel the grass beneath your feet again.
It Won’t Cost The Earth
And we’re not just talking about the cost of entry here (not that that will break the bank either). The entire festival has a focus on sustainability from site construction to the overall festival execution, aiming to be as ecologically friendly as possible. The festival has a goal to leave no trace and is aiming to improve the local environment by composting, recycling and using local, natural and reclaimed materials for stages and structures.
You Can Bring The Kids!
The family friendly atmosphere means that music fans of ANY age are welcome. Junior wonderers can indulge their creative side in arts and crafts activities, adventures and specially designed stage shows. The festival is specially designed with activities in mind to stimulate both parents and children and there’s even a nanny service where “you can leave your kids with the nannies and pick them up the next day” says festival director Jo Vidler.
It’s Right Around The Corner!
With just two days before the event kicks off, there’s no time to waste. Grab some friends, snag some tickets, pack your camping gear and get ready for the weekend of a lifetime!
