Singaporean music lovers should have gotten accustomed their homegrown rock’n’rollers, Cashew Chemists, by now. The quartet first started turning heads in 2011 and eventually found their themselves performing for not one but two of Singapore’s biggest music festivals in 2012, Bay Beats and IGNITE!. No one would ever guess that these four suave boys first started out playing heavy metal back in 2005. Ever since putting on a whole lotta soul at their EP launch in January, the band has been actively performing around Singapore and are now preparing for an Australian tour in August.

Cashew Chemists’ debut crowdfunded EP features six upbeat songs that scream with positive energy. Talking about unrequited love and an ideal life, their tunes are reminiscent of British indie rock’n’roll bands such as The Strokes. Frontman Yuji gives the most local favor to the band through the uniquely Singaporean timbre of his vocals. The tasteful talents of lead guitarist, Brain shines through in the feel-good song, “Road Trip”. Bassist and drummer Elliot and Zac prove an incredibly capable rhythm section on “What’s The Matter”. “Over You” is probably one of the best tracks on the EP, showcasing the band’s dynamic range, proving that these rock’n’rollers do have a mellow side.

Cashew Chemists’ Australian tour starts with a one-night-only show in Sydney on August 2 and moves onto five shows in Australia’s live music capital, Melbourne, ending August 10. The highlight of the tour might be the four lads performing for Singaporeans of Victoria and celebrating Singapore’s 48th National Day in Melbourne. When asked about what the band would like to say to their potential audiences in Australia, the boys quickly shared, “We’re coming on a 7-hour plane to spread some great Singaporean rock’n’roll vibes down under!”
