Crush of the Day: Hiatus Kaiyote – ‘Nakamarra’


Hiatus Kaiyote have been around since mid-2011 but I’ve only recently discovered them thanks to Gilles Peterson’s Brownwood Bubblers 9. Better late than never, right?

Hailing from Melbourne, the band journeyed 5000 kilometres to Alice Springs to film their first music video for ‘Nakamarra’ below, off their debut album Tawk Tomahawk. Their smooth, free-spirited brand of self-described ‘future soul’, accentuated by front woman Nai Palm’s colourful, Mother Earth-inspired sense of style and undeniable vocal prowess, has even impressed the likes of Erykah Badu and The Roots’ ?uestlove.
