Ed Sheeran surprises young fan for impromptu duet at the mall

Picture this, you’re – a 13 year old singer performing a rendition of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ in what’s quite potentially the biggest show you’ve ever played. Your nerves are running pretty high and you’re just hoping to make it through the song without dropping a note when out of nowhere Ed Sheeran himself walks on stage to join you for a duet.

Well that’s exactly what happened to 13-year-old Sydney Bourbeau when she performed at the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta recently, singing on stage as part of a fundraiser for the Edmonton Humane Society.

The Grammy nominated singer had an accomplice video tape the stealthy stage invasion that shows him walking through an HMV store before popping onto the stage mid way through Bourbeau’s rendition. The disbelieving crowd break into applause as they slowly realize what’s going on and the pair complete the song as a duet in what Bourbeau describes it as the ‘best’ thing that had happened to her.

Sheeran gave her a hug and departed the stage following the performance, stopping for some selfies with fans along the way. As though anyone needed further evidence of how much of a nice guy he is, Sheeran had his manager get in touch with the 13 year old Bourbeau to offer her two tickets to his Sunday night concert at Rexall Place too.
