No-one said that the music industry was an easy one to crack but for some of these artists, it has been rewarding… VERY rewarding. Take a peek at the net worth of the top 10 wealthiest  musicians in the world.

No. 10 Celine Dion – $500 million

Some people go to Vegas for a weekend and lose a fortune. Celine Dion moves there for years, and not only has she come out on top, she’s laughing all the way to the bank. Her show ‘Celine’ was been seen by more than 200,000 people in 2011 alone and between 2000 and 2010 Celine Dion was the highest grossing entertainer in the world, racking up a staggering $500 million dollars worth of ticket sales. Add to that her 200 million albums sold and successful line of perfume and it’s easy to see how she’s one of the richest women in entertainment.


No. 9 Mariah Carey $510 million

Mariah Carey is considered as one of the best selling and most popular singers in the history of music. Her remarkable vocal range catapulted her into the limelight at the tender age of 20 (or 21… no-one really knows but Mariah) and she achieved stardom through her self titled album. Despite a few years in pop star purgatory, she released her E+MC2 album to critical acclaim and between 2005 – 2007 she sold more than 150 million copies.


No. 8 Jay Z – $560 million

Having every one of your fifteen albums go platinum would be enough of an accomplishment for most musicians, but not Jay Z. One half of the richest celebrity couple in the music industry, Jay Z has parlayed his musical success into lucrative businesses in the recording industry, apparel brand RocaWear, NBA team the Brooklyn Nets and celebrity endorsements from companies like Budweiser, Chevy and Hewlett Packard.


No. 7 Bono – $600 million

Sir Paul Hewson, or Bono as he is known to most of us, achieved fame through the hugely successful Irish pop group U2. Since their first album Boy was released in 1980 they have gone on to release a further 13 albums selling more than 150 million copies worldwide. In addition to his work in U2 Bono is known for his philanthropic work specifically in Africa raising awareness of issues related to poverty, AIDS and malaria in the region.


No. 6 Madonna – $700 million

‘The Material Girl’ has certainly lived up to her namesake. She has managed to recreate her image almost yearly and stay in the public consciousness. In 2013 she took home a staggering $125 million on the back of her hugely successful MDNA tour as well as $75 million in merchandise sales and $10 million in TV rights and DVD sales. An astute investor, she also has a stake in Vita Coco, gym chain Hard Candy and her own fashion line, appropriately named ‘Material Girl’.


No. 5 Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs – $700 million

It’s difficult to find a better example of someone living the American dream than Sean Combs. Born the son of a murdered drug dealer in New York, Combs has gone on to be a successful rapper, actor, producer, media mogul and name changing enthusiast. His personal net worth is estimated at $700 million and just last year he added $120 million to his bottom line. With a diverse portfolio of investments, Sean Combs is one to watch in this list in the coming years.


No 4. Dr Dre – $780 million

Born Andre Romelle Young in South Central Los Angeles, Dr Dre’s is an American rapper, actor, entrepreneur and producer. Already successful in his field, Dr Dre’s stock skyrocketed when Apple purchased the company he co founded “Beats by Dre” for a staggering 3 billion dollars ($2.6 billion in cash and $400 million in stock) in April 2014. With a 25% stake in the company, Dre saw his net worth skyrocket to $750 million overnight elevating him to being one of the richest musicians in the world.


No. 3 Herb Alpert – $850 million

Herb Alpert began taking trumpet lessons at age eight and started writing his own music by 22. Whilst he was always a gifted musician (and even outsold the Beatles in 1966 with his band Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass), the bulk of his fortune was made through the establishment of A & M records in 1962 and went on to release critically acclaimed albums by Sheryl Crow, The Police and The Carpenters.


No 2. Andrew Lloyd Webber – $1.2 billion

A genuine musical prodigy, Andrew Lloyd Webber was able to play the piano, violin and french horn young in his life and began composing his own music at age 6. He has composed 13 musicals across his career including everything from Cats to The Phantom of The Opera and now is worth a whopping 1.2 billion which he uses to assist artists through a range of grants programs.


No. 1. Paul McCartney – $1.2 billion

One of two surviving members of The Beatles, Paul McCartney is responsible for some of the most recognisable songs in modern music history. Over the course of his musical career he has released 60 gold discs and sold over 100 million singles. Even a high profile divorce from ex-wife Heather Mills in 2008 didn’t dent his fortunes and he is now worth an estimated $1.2 billion dollars.
