The Hot List: What’s on in Bangkok this August



Whatever your music tastes, there’s no shortage of entertainment on offer this August in Bangkok. Whether you’re keen to see the latest indie rockers or watch the soundtrack to your adolescence live on stage, there’s a host of world class international performers touching down to play in the jewel in Thailand’s crown. We take a look at what’s in store:

The Used

Wednesday August 5

American rock band The Used are making their epic debut in Bangkok returning after the cancellation of Silverlake Music Festival Pattaya back in 2014. Tickets are extremely limited, with only 900 lucky punters able to bear witness to the mayhem of The Used’s first ever show.

Friday August 7echosmith thailand 2015

American indie pop rock group, are making their Bangkok debut concert this August, performing at The Palladium Hall on August 7. The California based band formed in 2009 are a family affair with the group comprised of  four Sierota siblings aged from 16 to 22 — Graham (drums), Sydney (vocals/keyboard), Noah (vocals/bass) and Jamie (vocals/guitar). In the last two years, they have toured with many bands including Owl City, Young The Giant, Twenty One Pilots, Neon Trees and American Authors and recently graced the stage with Taylor Swift as part of her 1989 tour. Support is provided by Tabasco.

OD Festival feat. The Prodigy

It’s been a long time coming but electronic music pioneers The Prodigy are set to return to Bangkok for the first time since 2007. Responsible for some of the biggest tracks of a generation in ‘Firestarter’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Voodoo People,’ these Essex based will be heading the lineup for OD Festival. Barbies, Gene Kasidit and Kidnappers will be warming up the main stage whilst a host of Bangkok’s finest DJs will be performing at the outside stage. Here’s just a few of the reason’s you don’t want to miss them.

Output Festival (Zedd)

It seems Tuesday is the new Friday in Bangkok with Output Festival also holding a 1-day EDM festival at Thunderdome on August 11. ZEDD is the headliner of the festival, visiting Asia as part of his True Colors album tour. He is ranked #22 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list and best known for his tracks “Clarity”, “Stay The Night” (with Hayley Williams of Paramore), “Break Free” (with Ariana Grande) and “I Want You To Know” (with Selena Gomez). In support MOTi and Dzeko & Torres will be performing.

Boyz II Men

Iconic R&B supergroup Boyz II Men are coming to the Kingdom Sunday, August 16.  Selling more than 60 million albums, Boyz II Men still remain the best-selling R&B group of all time. The critically-acclaimed work has won the group four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, nine Soul Train Awards, 2 Billboard Awards, as well as a 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. It’s not in dispute that these boys have definitely progressed from boys, through adolescence and are now unquestionably men but 20 years on, they can still hold a tune.

Australian Metalcore outfit “Confession” fronted by former I Killed The Prom Queen’s Michael Crafter will be touring Southeast Asia for the first time this August and are bringing Thai’s  finest Metalcore “Annalynn” with them as co-headliners.

Against The Current

Wednesday August 26

Formed in the far outreaches of New York City in the bleary Poughkeepsie, Against the Current formed in 2011 and soon found fame on YouTube after posting their covers of popular songs by a variety of different artists. They began touring around the world in May 2014, and have toured with various bands including Metro Station and Set It Off and will be touching down in Thailand as part of their first headlining world tour this August.

Imagine Dragons

Saturday August 29

American alt rockers Imagine Dragons make their Thai debut on August 29 with a concert at Impact Arena as part of their “Smoke + Mirrors” Tour. Founded in 2009, the Las Vegas based quartet received Billboard’s Breakthrough Band of 2013 and are known for their string of hits including ‘Radioactive’, ‘On Top of The World’, and recent chart smash ‘I Bet My Life.’

Saturday 29 August

DragonForce are delighted to announce their return to Thailand after an absence of 6 years with a show on Saturday 29th August at Hollywood Awards in Bangkok as part of the Maximum Overload World Tour. Guitarist Herman Li said “We have always wanted to return to Thailand where the fans have always been very kind to us. Thailand was the first country in South East Asia we ever played so it always holds great memories for the band. I will never the forget the tuk-tuk race through Bangkok in particular!”
