The Hot List: What’s on in Singapore this August



Singapore is doing no damage to its reputation as being at the cutting edge of live music in the South-east Asian region with another month of incredible acts touching down on the island. July was awash with international acts like 21 Pilots, 2 Cellos, Braids and the return of Garden Beats Festival but August looks set to eclipse this with a huge contingent of talent gracing Singapore’s shores. We take a look at some of the best music touching down in the city.

Cody Simpson

LAMC Productions is proud to announce Australian Pop singer Cody Simpson Live in Singapore for the first time on Monday, 10 August 2015 at the Kallang Theatre. With a third full length release behind him, the YouTube sensation will be sure to captivate Singaporean audiences as he performs pop ditties from his albums “Paradise” and “Surfer’s Paradise”.

Passion Pit

Cambridge based indie electronic band Passion Pit are bringing their electric live performance to Singapore for the first time. Frontman Michael Angelakos is renown for his high energy on stage and ability to get packed houses jumped to the music’s every pulse.

Tuesday 11 Augustechosmith

American indie pop rock group Echosmith are making their Singapore debut concert this August, performing at The Coliseum. They will be bringing their colourful blend of carefree pop to the sunny island on 11 August 2015. This will be the band’s inaugural visit to Singapore and they will be performing a high-energy concert at The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa.

In the last two years, they have toured with many bands including Owl City, Young The Giant, Twenty One Pilots, Neon Trees and American Authors and recently graced the stage with Taylor Swift as part of her 1989 tour.

Wednesday 12 Augustkimbra

Best known for her collaboration with Gotye for “Somebody That I Used To Know” Kimbra has proven she’s no trick pony by blowing audiences away at Laneway Festival in 2013 on Urbanscapes last year and is returning to Singapore in support of her sophomore album, The Golden Echo. The album features epic catchy numbers like ’90s Music’, ‘Miracle’ and ‘Rescue Him’ but it’s her unbridled energy on the stage, impressive vocal range and dazzling outfits that elevate her concerts to the level of a complete sensory experience

Kodaline w/ special guests Sheppard

In a two for one combo, Irish band of the moment, Kodaline are playing at Playhouse at *Scape and they’re bringing along Australian Indie-pop band Sheppard with them. The Dublin based quartet have been holding down the No. 1 spot in their native Ireland with the launch of their sophomore release “Coming Up For Air”

The Maine

Pesta Raya – Malay Festival Of Arts feat. NOAH

With over 8.5 million albums sold in Indonesia alone, this best-selling alternative pop/rock outfit from Bandung needs no assistance when it comes to developing a cult following and keeping fans hooked on their energetic beats and accessible lyrics. Formerly known as Peterpan, NOAH, who have been around since 2000, comprise a tight line-up of musicians: frontman Ariel, guitarists Uki and Lukman, and keyboardist David.

As a special bonus NOAH will be having a special meet-and-greet with their fans after their performance but this is limited to 80 Category One ticket holders so make sure to get in quick to avoid disappointment.

Ignite Music Festival

With it’s inaugural show back in 2008, IGNITE! Music Festival has been touted as one of the largest music festivals in Singapore. Previously a showcase of the best straight up rock and roll that the region has to offer, there’s a sonically varied lineup this year with with ShiGGa Shay, THELIONCITYBOY, Wicked Aura, R!ot In Magenta and Sezairi bringing a diverse range of sounds to the festival. Support comes in the form of In Each Hand a Cutlass, This Is Atlantis, Cadence, Take Two, Dru Chen and The Good Life Project.

Asia’s hip hop and soul festival SUMMERDAZE returns in its second annual edition, featuring performances by American rapper Fat Joe, alternative hip-hop group Arrested Development and Detroit-based Slum Village (founded by legendary producer J Dilla). Also on deck are the Triple Threat DJs, world champion DJs Vinroc (5th Platoon, NYC), DJ Apollo (Invisibl Skratch Piklz), Shortkut (Beat Junkies, ISP) and LA transplant, crowd controller Fran Boogie.

Imagine Dragons

American alt rockers Imagine Dragons make their debut on August 25 with a concert at Singapore Indoor Stadium as part of their “Smoke + Mirrors” Tour. Founded in 2009, the Las Vegas based quartet received Billboard’s Breakthrough Band of 2013 and are known for their string of hits including ‘Radioactive’, ‘On Top of The World’, and recent chart smash ‘I Bet My Life.’ They’ve spent nearly two years bringing their passionately inventive brand of alt-rock to arenas around the world and now it’ Singapore’s turn to experience them.
