Franco: Front Man Goes Solo

Fans of the Filipino superband, Franco, were saddened last year to hear that its big-name members (which includes Urbandub‘s Gabby Alipe and Janjan Mendoza, Queso‘s Paolo ‘8’ Teleran, Parokya ni Edgar‘s Buwi Meneses and front man Franco Reyes) have decided to part ways. There is a reason for them to put smiles back on their faces though – the acknowledged heart and soul of the group, Franco Reyes, decided to go on with the adventure – only that he’s gone doing it solo.

And how does he take on the journey? By releasing an album and holding his first solo concert on Saturday, 6 April 2013 at the Music Museum.

With his current release, the 17-track sophomore effort Soul Adventurer contains tracks with meaningful titles relative to the band’s break-up like “What Is To Be Must Be”, “Renewal”, “A Beautiful Diversion”, “Better Days”and “To Survive”. He explained, “That song [“To Survive”] talks about life experiences that everyone can relate to and how we can make everything positive despite the negativity we encounter daily, on how we can find inner peace and finding our true selves and true purpose in the midst of chaos, and that is to spread love, peace and harmony with everything around us. Soul Adventurer is like a self-journey to finding what the meaning of our lives and finding inner peace.”

Reyes recorded this time with a back-up band: a no all-star line-up composed of Paul Canada, Victor Guison and Dave Elfin and kept the artistic credibility that flavored Franco’s self-titled album released in 2010. That same year, Franco’s original line-up won an Awit award for Best Performance by a Group for their song “Castaway.” The band dominated that year’s NU Awards after winning ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ for the song “This Gathering.” Reyes himself was nominated for ‘Guitarist of the Year’.
