He’s been a genie, a (mediocre at best) rapper, defied gravity and has even been an honorary reserve police officer across multiple police departments. Now Shaq is adding another job title to his already expansive resume – Trap DJ.
The 7-foot-tall ex-NBA star slated to make his festival debut at TomorrowWorld in September. The Atlanta based EDM festival boasts a lineup of the industry’s biggest names including Tiësto, Martin Garrix Kaskade, Hardwell and Steve Angello.
Shaq, or DJ Diesel as he calls himself, first performed in Vegas a little over a year ago and has now released a set on his Soundcloud page showcasing his evolving skills behind the decks. The set opens with a sample from 1979 cult classic The Warriors before dropping head first into a bone jarring remix of Waka Flocka Flame’s “Hard in Da Paint” and other hip hop bangers set to room shaking bass. With his known interest in rap and hip hop, it’s little wonder that Shaq opted for the genre known as a hybrid between EDM production and hip hop tendencies and the set is surprisingly well constructed.
