Zouk celebrates a quarter century as a dance music institution by closing its doors

The crown jewel of Singapore’s nightlife scene is celebrating its Silver Jubilee next month, hosting the ultimate of farewell parties and closing out a chapter in the city’s clubbing scene.

That’s right, Zouk will celebrate its 25th anniversary on May 28th, taking the theme of Silver Jubilee literally and adorning the space in a multiplicity of silver. The evening also marks the club’s final night at its spiritual home on Jiak Kim Street, which it has occupied since first taking over the venue in 1991.

Zouk have promised the ultimate experience for its fans, with a dance floor filled with projection mapping and installations provided by Untitled Project, Phuture and Velvet Underground Dance. Behind the decks will see a rotation of favorite past and present DJs that have helped shape the sound of the club over the years including CyberJapan Dancers, Maniam and Shigga Shay. The theme of the night is silver so dress to impress as there are prizes for the best dresssed party goers.

Across the years, Zouk has welcomed the who’s who of international DJ talent from across the spectrum of electronic music, establishing and maintaingin its position as the pre-eminent clubbing destination within the region. But, as they say, all good things music come to an end. Lucky for electronic music fans in Singapore the closing of one door means the opening of another.

Zouk announced mid last year that, due to their lease not being renewed, they would be relocating the club to a brand new facility along the glistening Singapore harbour in central Clarke Quay. The space, which the club intends to invest S$10 million in, is targeted for a June opening, with the complete relocation expected to be completed by September this year.
