SEA Buzz – Hello World and a Round-up of Events in April

by

I guess all my shenanigans online have amused someone enough to land me this spot to write about what is going on in Southeast Asia (mostly Singapore really). 🙂

A bit of a self-introduction is in order since this is the first post: I’m really just a massive fan girl (of music and some actors).

I like my pop/rock and some dubstep but in the last year or two, I’ve been sucked into the whole Hallyu Wave that I can’t seem to snap out of. Not that the Hallyu Wave is anything bad but the way it consumes my life now is making all my friends threaten to sever ties with me because they are not into the Hallyu Wave.

Anyway, that pretty much gives you an idea of what’s on my radar as I try to bring you the buzz in the music and entertainment fan communities.

For a start, Lawson was in Singapore earlier  from 4 – 6 April 2013 for the first time to promote their debut album “Chapman Square”. And if you didn’t know, their manager, Aaron Buckingham, was actually a member of the now defunct boyband called V. It sure was quite interesting to see the manager of an artist signing a couple of autographs on an album he can call his own.

Kpop band CN Blue was also in Singapore on 13 April 2013 to perform their first full-length concert as part of their Blue Moon World Tour. Whatever you think of Kpop, CN Blue is probably not it. They are a legit and great rock band riding on the Hallyu Wave to reach a bigger audience. I’m a huge fan and I could really go on about how awesome they are for ages.

U-Kiss on the other hand probably fits in closer with your idea of Kpop idol groups. They sing and dance and entertained their fans to no end at their fan meeting in Singapore on 20 April 2013. There was even a lucky fan who was called on stage and had a coveted photo taken with the group much to the envy of all the U-Kiss fans all around the world.

Also, Korean actor Hyun Bin, from the very popular Korean drama series Secret Garden, was also in town for a fan meeting. There was an open press conference in the Bugis+ shopping mall on 26 April 2013 where members of the public could catch a glimpse of Hyun Bin in the flesh.

The arrangement of a press conference where members of the public can catch a glimpse of their idol is very interesting; especially when a female fan in the audience who got a chance to ask Hyun Bin a question didn’t hesitate to propose to him.

This pretty much summarises some of the highlights of April 2013.

May 2013 is going to be completely insane with Tegan and Sara, Temper Trap, The Used, Music Matters and the Star Social Awards, Richie Ren and Deftones all happening in Singapore.

Who said Singapore is boring?
