Laneway Festival 2013: Cloud Nothings, Divine Fits, Japandroids, Gotye, Kimbra

Cloud Nothings

Hailing from Ohio, indie-rock outfit Cloud Nothings started out to be a one-man band composed of singer Dylan Baldi. After dropping out of college and focusing on his music, he was signed by Carpark Records, then releasing their rave-worthy album,  Attack on Memory, and is now touring with three other band members.

Cloud Nothings – No Future/No Past

Cloud Nothings – Stay Useless (Live at KEXP)

Divine Fits

No newbies in this newbie band! Divine Fits is a collaboration between Spoon’s Britt Daniel and Wolf Parade’s Dan Boeckner. While both have separate success in their respective bands, the partnership and collaboration with New Bomb Turks’ Sam Brown and Alex Fischel seem be a good call as their debut, A Thing Called Divine Fits, has been received well.

Divine Fits – My Love is Real

Divine Fits – Shivers

Japandroids

To add another garage rock sound on Saturday’s line-up, Canadian duo Japandroids will take on the Laneway stage performing tracks from their sophomore album, Celebration Rock. After touring extensively in 2009-2010 during the release of their debut Post-Nothing, it would certainly be a sight to see how the duo will bring energy to the Singapore stage.

Japandroids – The House that Heaven Built

Japandroids – Heart Sweats (Live at KEXP)

Gotye

Do we still require an introduction? I bet everyone had that viral track “Somebody that I Used to Know” in their iPods last year. In case you haven’t heard of Wally de Backer (that’s Gotye’s real name) and his other tracks, well, here you go. We can’t possibly let you go to Laneway with just one track in mind, it’d be like going to a battle with one arrow for your bow.

Gotye – Eyes Wide Open

Gotye – Easy Way Out

Kimbra

Closely associated to that behemoth of a track (yes, I’m still referring to “Somebody that I Used to Know”), Kimbra is a star that deserves to shine in her own right. The Kiwi songstress released her debut, Vows, which reached #14 on the Billboard charts. She’ll be sweeping in with a touch of jazz on Laneway’s stage so better brush up on her tracks!

Kimbra – Two Way Street

Kimbra – Cameo Lover (Live at Sing Sing Studios)
