Laneway Festival 2013: Kings of Convenience, Nicolas Jaar, Real Estate and Tame Impala

KINGS OF CONVENIENCE

Singapore’s love for the acoustic-folk sounds of this endearing Norwegian duo is evident from the sold-out concert halls of previous years. Despite the lack of new releases, we’re certain that many would warmly welcome the opportunity to swoon to Eirik Bøe and Erlend Øye’s voices under the stars at Laneway Festival. Fun fact: Last year Erlend (attempted to) inconspicuously blend into the crowd at Fort Canning – while this year at The Meadow he will take the stage, where he rightfully belongs!

NICOLAS JAAR

Laneway Festival has been giving a nod to electronic acts out of the left-field and Nicolas Jaar represents a prime example with his addition to this year’s line-up for Singapore – undoubtedly a treat for the discerning festival-goer. At 23, the American-Chilean musician continues to push the envelope with his joyously adventurous, boldly organic approach to electronic music, clinching the top spot in Resident Advisor’s list of Top Live Acts of 2012 and also BBC’s Essential Mix of the Year

REAL ESTATE

We predict that the Real Estate set will be a breezy, laidback interlude to the more uptempo, high-energy acts of Laneway Singapore – one that will allow you to kick back to with your friends, sip on an ice-cold beer and soak up the sun (or rain, who knows!). Hailing from New Jersey, Real Estate’s brand of indie rock effortlessly evokes images of sleepy, suburban Americana with its nostalgic lyrics and swirling guitars drenched in reverb, as showcased in their gem of a sophomore album, ‘Days’.

TAME IMPALA

A surprise exclusive inclusion to the Singapore (and Auckland) Laneway line-up, Tame Impala promises a novel trip to the wild side of psychedelia and we can’t think of a more perfect setting than Gardens by the Bay, with its dream-like landscapes and surreal, towering structures. With their second album ‘Lonerism’ heavily featured in countless Best-Of-2012 lists, Tame Impala’s live performance is bound to incite a range of reactions, from introspective spacing out to frenzied dancing with their groovy, hypnotic jams.
