2NE1 And BIGBANG Named Winners In The ‘YouTube Music Awards’

The latest results in the YouTube Music Awards 2015 have again shown the increasing global interest in K-pop music with Korean acts 2NE1 and BIGBANG snagging two of the illustrious

YG Entertainment’s BIGBANG and 2NE1 have been announced as two of the winners in the YouTube Music Awards of 2015. The awards are based on their growth in views, subscribers and engagement across the past six months and the two K-pop acts have been recognized for being amongst the “50 innovative acts that continue to make YouTube the place where artists and fans connect.”

As the world’s largest video streaming and most recognizable platform for music video distribution, YouTube has compiled a list that’s a virtual who’s who in the music industry at the moment. The K-pop superstars join fellow winners of the YouTube Awards including mainstream artists like Drake, Sam Smith, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and One Direction as well as YouTube originated stars like Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix. Between them they have a staggering 47 billion views and over 164 million subscribers.

You Tube introduced this year’s YouTube Music Award winners earlier yesterday writing “These are the artists with the biggest growth in views, subscribers and engagement over the last six months. The artists you watched over 47 billion times collectively.” As the only Asian artists to be represented in such a list this represents quite an achievement for this pair of globe conquering acts and goes to show the increasing global appeal of K-pop.

The promotional video features snippets of 2NE1’s ‘Come Back Home’ and GD X TAEYANG’s ‘Good Boy’ amongst footage of a host of other award winners.

Congratulations to both BIGBANG and 2NE1 on this incredible achievement and here’s hoping the rest of their 2015 will be full of similar successes.
