Avicii announces retirement of his touring career at age 26

Swedish EDM superstar Tim Bergling, better known to fans as Avicii, announced earlier this morning that he will be retiring from international touring and performances. The genius behind tracks like “Levels” & “Bromance” made the news public via his official Facebook page, revealing that he will be wrapping up his touring career at the end of 2016.

Following a lengthy thank you note, Bergling told fans that he realised he needed to make a change, one that he’d “been struggling with for a while.” The star has been plagued by health issues over the years, leading to multiple cancelled tours and appearances in 2014. Back then, he said that following surgery to have his gall bladder and appendix removed, “I’d just been going and going. I was dropping weight. I needed to take a break.”

Acknowledging incidents like these, Bergling noted that “My path has been filled with success but it hasn’t come without its bumps.” His relentless tour schedule saw the prolific producer performing hundreds of shows each year and it seems that the high-flying life of an international touring DJ has finally taken its toll.

By the age of 26, Avicii had been ranked in the Top 100 DJ list by DJ Mag for five years running. He had also secured three Grammy nominations, released two artist albums and sold millions of copies of albums globally. This has made him one of the most prolific figures within the EDM movement.

He went on to say in the farewell note that while he appreciates the opportunities music has given him, “I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.”

But whilst he may be done with touring, he is not done with music quite yet.

“I will however never let go of music – I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but I’ve decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows. Let’s make them go out with a bang!

One part of me can never say never, I could be back …but I won’t be right back.

Yours forever,

Tim Bergling / Avicii”
