Former EXO Star Luhan To Make His Hollywood Debut

If rumors are correct, former EXO star Luhan will soon be starring in famed Chinese director Zhang Yimou’s (House of Flying Daggers, Raise the Red Lantern, Hero) first Hollywood film alongside megastars Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe.

According to Chinese media outlet Sina, ex EXO member Luhan has joined the cast of an upcoming Hollywood film titled ‘The Great Wall which will premiere in 2016.

The movie is a production by film production company Legendary Pictures and its Legendary East division and is Zhang Yimou’s first English language film. The production has a budget of $135 million and will be distributed through Universal Pictures.

According to Sina, Luhan has landed one of the lead roles, making it his first appearance in an international film alongside noted actors Andy Lau, Zhang Hanyu, Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe. Not speaking English fluently appears to not be an issue for Luhan as he is set to appear alongside a number of other cast members that do not speak English as a first language.  The film has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as the ‘largest film ever shot entirely in China for global distribution.’

‘The Great Wall’ is a historical fantasy action movie depicting the story of William and his group European mercenaries who travel to China during the Northern Song dynasty to steal the formula for gunpowder. When they stumble across the gates of the great wall, they are faced with the might of a hidden army and must fight for their lies against mythical beasts.

Along with the ‘The Great Wall’, Luhan has starred in Chinese films ’20 Once Again’, ’12 Golden Ducks’ and his most recent film ‘Miss Granny’ which topped the Korean box office. He also was involved in the production of a song for the official soundtrack.

Filming for ‘The Great Wall’ was due to begin in February but setbacks have pushed filming back to an unspecified date.
