Jimmy Fallon Assembles An All-star Cast For A Capella Rendition Of ‘We Are The Champions’

Jimmy Fallon has made his fair share of celebrity friends over his years hosting his late night TV show and the full strength of his star power was on full display last night when he assembled a crack squad of musicians to perform a special rendition of ‘We Are The Champions’.

we are teh champions

In order to commemorate the New England Patriots victory in the 49th Superbowl, Fallon made a few calls and managed to get Christina Aguilerra, Usher, Meagan Trainor, Carrie Underwood, Sam Smith and more into the studio to belt out an incredible version of the classic song. In house band ‘The Roots’ provided a cappella backing duties allowing the star power to shine through. The segment is televised in a 3 x 3 (and eventually 4 x 3) panel reminiscent of The Brady Bunch in order to house the full breadth of talent on display.

The song starts with 40 year old Fallon singing the beginning of the song “I paid my dues, time after time / I’ve done my sentence, but committed no crime” before Carrie Underwood joins in the song. Before long Sam Smith takes centre stage and then Ariana Grande. Before long, every panel is filled with some of the biggest show-stoppers in the music industry.

By the end of the clip Usher, Blake Shelton, Meghan Trainor and One Direction (who just toy around after being squeezed into one square) have all contributed to the “Champions” bit, but it’s the diva-off between Ariana Grande, and Christina Aguilera that steals the performance with their powerful vocals in a back and forth battle during the grand finale.
