Pharrell Williams To Release ‘Happy’ Children’s Book

Creative force of nature Pharrell Williams is due to add another feather to his generally oversized hat later this year. The Grammy Award winning artist has just inked a deal with Putnam Books to release four children’s books due for release on September 22.

The first of the four books is inspired by Pharrell’s hit song “Ha ppy” from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, with Billboard reporting that it will feature photographs of children from across the globe “celebrating what it means to be happy.”

The first run is due to have 250,000 copies printed and Pharrell went on to say in a statement “I’m humbled by the global success of ‘Happy,’ but especially in awe of the song’s young fans.” “My collaboration with Penguin allows me to continue a dialogue with these children in a fresh, new way. We’re both committed to feeding the curiosity of young minds with imagination.”

The success of Pharrell’s song Happy has almost been without precedent. It has enjoyed more than half a BILLION views on YouTube, earned the artist an Oscar nomination in 2014, won two Grammys this year and in September 2014 it became the most downloaded track in history in the UK.

This is not the first time Putnam, a division of Penguin, have collaborated with recording artists. Previously it published Dolly Parton’s children’s book “I am A Rainbow “and her book geared towards adult readers called “Dream More”.
