Urbanscapes returns to Malaysia, announces huge first act

After taking a break in 2015, Malaysia’s creative arts festival Urbanscapes is returning to Kuala Lumpur for an epic 13th edition and though the festival isn’t until the 23rd of April, they’ve already dropped a huge headline announcement in the form of Australian psychedelic rockers Tame Impala.

The enigmatic act have been at the forefront of the burgeoning Perth psychedelic scene and made waves across the world, headlining stages at some of the world’s biggest festivals like Coachella, Glastonbury and Laneway festival.

Fronted by the unbelievably talented Kevin Parker, who created the band as a home recoring project, Tame Impala are just about to embark on a sold out European tour that will see them play across the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany and the UK. Parker has written, recorded and produced the band’s music since their self titled debut EP in 2008. Successive albums Innerspeaker (2010) and Lonerism (2012) followed with the group unveiling their latest masterpiece in Currents earlier in 2015.

The announcemnet marks Tame Impala’s debut performance in Malaysia and a unique opportunity to see one of the most musically gifted groups in their prime.

Previous editions of the festival have seen CHVRCHES, The Lemonheads, Mogwai and Tenacious D take to the stage and there are bound to be more announcements closer to the date. Tickets go on sale 21st of January (Thursday) and are strictly for fans over the age of 18 so don’t miss out.

Urbanscapes is one of the longest-running creative arts festival in Malaysia. Initially founded with the aim to bring together Malaysian creative communities from the fields of music, the arts, design, film and other creative disciplines, the festival has now grown to include the best from around the world too.

The community-centric festival is built on the belief that great things happen when people come together. This year, they’re taking the festival back to its roots – in the heart of KL. Spanning over 2 weeks and in various venues throughout the city,
