It has been an agonising three-year wait between albums for Avenged Sevenfold fans. Not anymore! Following the release of their previous album, Nightmare, and the death of their former drummer, ‘The Rev’, Avenged Sevenfold have just released their single “Hail To The King” from their new album, Hail To The King. The new album is due for release in Australia, New Zealand and Europe on August 23rd and due everywhere else on August 27th.

“Hail To The King” captures the classic eighties sound by stripping back the technicality demonstrated in previous albums. The guitars are heavier, the drums are simple but effective and the vocals sound like they’re from a ninetees Metallica album – but it works! So what’s the reason for the new sound? Here’s what lead vocalist M. Shadows told Kerrang!“I look around now and I see a lot of heavy rock bands and metal bands getting into dubstup and electronics and incorporating this new fashionable shit into their sound. That’s not us. We’re not interested in that. If anything, we’re going almost in the opposite direction by going even more old school. I mean, we’re going way back on this, to an album Black Sabbath-esque bluesy type thing, with some of the heaviest sounds we’ve ever made.”

I’ve always been very impressed with Synyster Gates’ guitar solo. The one in “Hail To The King” is much more melodic and epic than what is heard in previous albums, therefore giving the song more power. Overall, “Hail To The King” has made me excited for Avenged Sevenfold’s upcoming album. The combination of the solid but simple drumbeat, heavy guitars and the classic eighties metal vibe shown in this track really make the track worth listening to. I urge anyone who is reading this to quickly click on the YouTube video below and check this song out now!
