Rubbing Shoulders with Wanderland Artist Yolanda Moon

Yolanda Moon

Karpos announced one of the biggest things to happen in Manila’s alternative music scene. If you’ve been living under a rock, it’s time to come out and smell the roses because Wanderland Music & Arts Festival is coming to town! The people asked for a festival and an all-day, outdoor music extravaganza is what they received. With a killer line-up too, I might add. The Temper Trap headline the international bill that will make any music fan giddy. Joining them on the 18th May are Neon Trees, Nada Surf, Avalanche City, Colour Coding, Tully on Tully with local artists Up Dharma Down, Yolanda Moon, Pulso, Taken By Cars and She’s Only Sixteen.

We will be rubbing shoulders with each and every band hitting the stage and rolling out each interview for your viewing pleasure in the lead up to the festival. Manila trip hop, soul duo Yolanda Moon are first up. We chat to guitarist Kyle Quismundo to fulfill your Wanderland-fix for the day.

Music Weekly: How did you react when you heard you’d be supporting huge acts like Temper Trap and Nada Surf?

Yolanda Moon: It’s always amazing sharing the stage with artists who’ve been in the industry for a while and have a huge following. The Temper Trap has been in my music library even before I had a serious musical act going, so it’s incredible that we’re supporting.

Wanderland is one of the first outdoor music festivals to happen in Manila. How has the live music scene evolved since you began gigging?

Yolanda Moon started gigging about a year ago, so there hasn’t been much evolution in the live music scene. But I can tell the future of Manila’s live music scene is getting brighter.

Who are you looking forward to seeing play at Wanderland? Will you be watching side-stage or front-row?

Everyone in the line-up. Excited to see what everyone cooked up for this show. Probably side-stage, to get a good look at everyone’s equipment.

Can we expect to hear new material at the festival?

Yes you can!

If your band were a sandwich, describe what your fillings would be.
Lots of meat. And cheese.
