A New Chapter for Charice

Times are changing! It wasn’t too long ago when we saw a young girl on the Ellen DeGeneres show that left our jaws dropping on the floor with her rendition of Jennifer Hudson‘s “And I Am Telling You” and the late Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You”. Ellen’s goosebumps and Oprah’s tears later, the girl impressed North America and the rest of the world, giving her motherland, the Philippines, something to be truly proud of.

These days, 21-year-old Charice is embracing her new identity. After revealing her sexuality on a Filipino talk show and taking on a new ‘look‘, she has just released Chapter 10, a 13-track record for her Filipino fans under Star Records. It is a collection of songs that the singer handpicked herself and are admittedly, “close to [her] heart”. While it mainly contains covers of songs from the likes of Bryan Adams and Diana Ross, Charice also penned a song called “Unexpected Love” with Filipino-American The Voice contestant Cheesa. The best collaboration though? Her duet with girlfriend Alyssa Quejano for the track “How Could An Angel Break My Heart”.

Also included in the album is her rendition of “Yakap” (“Embrace”), a current theme song of a local TV show, which has been on the airwaves and charting on Top 30 Philippines for weeks. Listen to the track to preview the rest of what the once little girl on our TV screens has grown up to be.
