Super Junior take out two awards in 2015 Teen Choice Awards

Both Super Junior and their fans have emerged victorious in their respective categories at this year’s Teen Choice Awards

  • The group have managed to beat out fellow K-pop acts 2NE1 and Girls’ Generation and other international acts like One Direction and Little Mix to win the title of “Choice International Artist.”
  • Super Junior’s fandom, ELF (Everlasting friends), also won the group the “Choice Fandom” award
  • The two awards make Super Junior the only Asian artists to win an award at the Teen Choice 2015 Awards ceremony.

The wins clearly show the increasing popularity of K-pop in international territories with the two categories having multiple entrants from Korea. In the International Artist category, Super Junior was up against label mate Girls’ Generation, YG Entertainment’s 2NE1, One Direction, Little Mix, and Australian act 5 Seconds of Summer. For the Choice Fandom award Super Junior’s ELF’s went up against the fans of 5 Seconds of Summer, Fifth Harmony, Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato and One Direction to come out on top.

The group were not in attendance to accept the award which aired on Sunday on Fox, and the international awards were not broadcast on television.
The news of Super Junior’s awards came as K-pop is gaining momentum on American online polls. K-pop girl group T-ara fans are in the midst of a heated war with Beyonce’s Beyhive fans in a battle for the title in Billboard’s Fan Army Face-off 2015.
Super Junior debuted under SM Entertainment in 2005 and became one of K-pop’s most iconic groups after the success of their hit song, “Sorry Sorry,” in 2009. Super Junior’s last performance in the United States was at KCON LA on August 1.
