Staying for weeks at Top 30 Philippines‘ charts is Yeng Constantino‘s track “Chinito” (a Filipino term for a man with Chinese descent). A clear favorite, Yeng’s hit was taken from her fifth album Metamorphosis and is an infectious track that is easy on the ears and exceptionally melodic.

For her music video, the 24-year-old Yeng got a little help from actor and local heart throb Enchong Dee. The well-choreographed video reveal the duo dancing through the track. Surprisingly though, “Chinito” was originally written as “Chinita” (girl with Chinese descent). It was written by a freelance artist named Jed Dumawal, who is also the pop rock princess’ friend. Yeng revealed in an interview that the writer penned this tune for singer/actress Barbie Hsu who’s inspired him upon watching Taiwan’s hit show Meteor Garden. It was aired in the Philippines back in 2001.

Lending the song to Yeng, the title was changed and is now enjoyed by the masses. She performed the track after her fans requested it for last Saturday’s #BYRequest concert where she shared the Araneta stage with musician Bamboo. It was a successful night which made a lot of Yeng’s and Jed’s “Chinito” fans really happy.
