Selena Gomez Hits Back At Lorde And Says She Will No Longer Perform Her Songs

Selena Gomez has threatened to stop covering Lorde’s breakout hit ‘Royals’ in her live performances. She made the comment after Lorde seemingly criticised Gomez and the lyrics of her songs. Lorde, still high in the Top 30 Asia charts with her single ‘”Royals”, recently hit out at Gomez by saying,  “I’m a feminist and the theme of her song is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me.’ I’m sick of women being portrayed this way.”

Lorde, who has just released her debut album, “Pure Heroine” to widespread acclaim, continued, “I just find that so pathetic and I don’t think girls should be listening to that kind of think and I don’t think that is normal or healthy.”

The lyrics that Lorde claimed made her feel sick are in the Selena Gomez song, “Come & Get It”, where Gomez sings ‘When you’re ready come and get it, I’ll be sitting right here just waiting’.

Lorde, who recently celebrated her 17th birthday by playing a gig to a star studded audience in her home country of New Zealand, admits she is a feminist and questioned the message Gomez is sending out to female fans. She said “I have pretty strong morals and opinions being in pop music, and I can’t help but express those, which I think people appreciate.” Unfortunately for Gomez, her album “Stars Dance”  is full of lyrics that are in the line of feminist fire.

However, Gomez recently hit back by saying: “That’s not feminism. It’s not supporting other women. I actually covered her song in all of my shows that I’ve done so far. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue that.”

Lorde recently posted on her blog, “There is a lot of stupid shit that comes with being lucky enough to do what i do – a lot of stuff i’d rather skip, if i could”.
