The Wknd Artists Now on Deezer

The Wknd, an Internet based music magazine and multimedia platform, announced that they had reach an accord to provide content for Deezer, a popular web-based music streaming service. The agreement allows both parties to capitalize on each others’ strengths, and takes Malaysian independent music to a higher latitude.

“Having Deezer on board along with us on this journey helps us achieve our goal of making local and regional independent music available to the masses,” said Fikri Fadzil, founder of  The Wknd. “At the end of the day, it’s really not about The Wknd – it’s about the artists and their music. We’re optimistic that our collaboration with Deezer will help these acts get the attention they deserve.”

Starting with its first official album release, Selekta Hujung Minggu Vol. 1, The Wknd will gradually be uploading its catalog of over 180 tracks to Deezer’s platform – bringing close to 60 independent artists to Deezer’s roster of artists and music. Widely acknowledged as being the voice of Malaysian and South East Asian independent music, The Wknd brings its audience a step closer to the forefront of the rapidly-growing scene. It provides a platform for a diverse array of musicians to document their art, and is fast becoming a bellwether of fresh new music.

And as for Deezer, Dona Inthaxoum, Marketing Manager Singapore and Malaysia says, “Deezer is thrilled to accompany the Malaysian independent music scene take a step further into the international scene. Our mission is to make people discover and share music. The Wknd’s catalogue is a gem. We can’t wait to share it with larger audiences, living as far as in Mexico!”
