Typhoon Yolanda Provokes Emotional Response From Filipino Musicians

Philippines: Typhoon Yolanda has brought chaos and suffering to central Philippines, prompting emotional responses from the island’s musicians. Julie San San Jose tweeted “Stay safe everyone”, which was echoed by Kahlil Ramos who also pleaded, ‘Be safe everyone.” Sam Concepcion’s message was simple, ‘Yolanda be cool.’ Meanwhile, Kean Cipriano tweeted “My prayers going out to all who are affected by the typhoon. This shall pass. Have faith.” Despite the storm, Callalily were still determined to play their gig at Skydome for the Caronia Music Festival.

Other music events have been cancelled due to the fierce winds. Gigs by Rivermaya and Dream For Daniel were both cancelled because of the weather. The Matchbox 20 concert in Manila has also been canceled. The official announcement from the organisers was, “Due to the threat of Super Typhoon Yolanda, the management of Matchbox 20 has decided to cancel their scheduled show at the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday, November 8. The band is very disappointed not to appear, but weather conditions have made their travel to Manila no longer feasible.”

Typhoon Yolanda is predicted to be the strongest storm ever recorded, with winds reaching a staggering 200mph+.
