Ed Sheeran Gets ‘Dirrty’ With Christina Aguilera

edsheeran-dirrtyEd Sheeran has dropped by BBC Radio 1’s studios to a deliver an unlikely but brilliant cover of Christina Aguilera’s ‘Dirrty.’

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran stopped by BBC Radio 1 to lay down a soulful version of Christina Aguilera’s 2002 smash hit during the station’s Live Lounge program. Known for stretching artists outside their comfort zones, the regular radio segment has consistently delivered genre bending tracks as singers tackle songs from other well known performers.
Whilst no stranger to the program, the ginger haired Sheeran’s rendition of the pop classic was certainly amongst his best performances to date. Accompanied by a trio of backup singers and a keyboardist, Sheeran takes the sex-ed up tune and transforms it into an acoustically driven ballad with a distinctly R&B twang.
He delivers a heartfelt rendition of all of Christina’s lyrics but more impressively, tackles Redman’s rap verse and handles it all without missing a beat. Without any mistakes or stutters, he nails the complicated rhymes giving some insight into the other side of Sheerans’s career – writing the lyrics for a host of some of the most prolific UK hip hop artists. Making the performance even more impressive is the fact that Sheeran put together the composition at the last minute after finding out he couldn’t play the track he was originally intending to perform on air. Just a day before the performance, he tweeted the following:
